Dear Parents,
What an exciting day today! I love the first day of school. I want to remind you of a few things as we begin our first week of first grade together.
• I sent home your child’s monthly reading logs for the entire school year. Reading logs should be returned to school on the first school day of each month. I recommend keeping the logs in the back pocket of your child’s red folder or in another safe place for easy access each month.
• Remember that dismissal procedure at Century for parent pick-up has changed this year. Instead of coming out the front doors, students will wait with teachers in the gym. The front doors are locked during the school day, but they will be unlocked at 3:40 (2:40 on Fridays) for parents to enter the gym and pick up.
• I encourage you to send a water bottle to school with your child each day. Water is the best brain food of all! Also, students may bring a healthy snack to school to eat in the afternoon if they like.
• A spelling word practice sheet should be coming home in your child’s red folder today. Please practice these spelling words with your child a little each night. We will have a practice spelling test on Wednesday, and we will all take a graded spelling test on Friday.
Thank you again for all of your support. This is going to be a great year.
Sincerely,
Layne Eckhardt
