Week Three Reminders

Dear Parents,

It is amazing how quickly the first two weeks of school have flown by. Now we are ready for our third week of first grade. This week we’ll continue our science unit on plants. We are also practicing how we go to literacy work stations, and we’re learning what good writers do when they write a first draft. Our spelling words for this week are:

1. be
2. but
3. can
4. get
5. go
6. got
7. jump

Here are some additional reminders for this week:

• Remember to send your child to school in appropriate shoes for P.E. on Tuesdays.
• Please remind your child that if Silly Bandz are worn to school, they must stay on and should not cause a distraction. When they are taken off and played with, traded, etc., they become toys, and we are not allowed to have toys at school. As long as Silly Bandz don’t interrupt our learning, however, they are okay to wear to school.
• Please join our PTA to support our students, and thank you for sending in Box Tops!
• Please send a note to school in your child’s red folder or call the office if there will be a change of plans in how your child will be getting home.
• During Writer’s Workshop, we have learned that good writers begin by brainstorming ideas to write about. Sometimes pictures can spark an idea when we get stuck, so I am asking that each child bring to school 5-7 pictures from home. We will use these pictures for inspiration when we write. They will be kept in a zip-lock baggie in our writing notebooks. Please try to send these to school sometime this week, and please write your child’s name on the back of any pictures you send. Thank you for your help!
• Our class goes to our school library on Wednesdays, so please remember have your child bring back both of his or her library books Wednesday morning.
• Wednesday, September 1st is our school picture day at Century Elementary. Please return your payment if you would like to purchase school pictures.

Thank you for all you do to support your child’s learning!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Eckhardt
