A Peek at Our Week

Dear Parents,

Hello again! The weeks are really flying by! This week we had a great time on our field trip to the Pickin' Patch, as you can see from our pictures. Everyone enjoyed the hay mazes and the hay rides, and we got to pick a pumpkin straight off the vine! Thank you so much to everyone who was able to attend!
Here’s the latest news for our classroom:

• Next week’s spelling words will be: dirt, first, girl, quit, shirt, what, when, where, who, why
• Next week’s phonograms will be: ar, ay, ow
• Starting with next week’s spelling test, I will begin giving students two transfer words to spell. Transfer words are words that students should be able to spell based on their knowledge of other words’ spellings. For example, if you can spell fire, you can spell tire. I will give the class two transfer words to spell on the back of our test, based on our study of word wall words, phonograms, and word families.
• The first collection date for Box Tops for Education is October 21st. Thank you for sending in your Box Tops!
• Since the last day of first quarter falls on October 15, I will need to record books from the October reading logs onto our grade cards before the end of the month. October reading logs will be due October 13. Books read after that date can be recorded on the November reading log and will count toward our second quarter goal. Thank you!
• We have a wonderful new feature on our classroom blog! Click on the Study Tools page of our blog to find a link to our Spelling City lists. I have entered our spelling lists, so your first grader can play great games with this week’s spelling words. There is also the option to take a spelling practice test to check your student’s progress. Our upcoming list is List #9.
