- On behalf our schools and our community, I want to thank all of you for supporting our Angel Tree project again this year. You have supported Nixa Schools in providing over 800 Christmas wishes for children right here in our community! There are a few ornaments left on our trees that are more difficult to find gifts. If you would still like to get an ornament, and would like to substitute a similar item that is easier to find, we would appreciate your help and generosity. Those last minute ornaments may be returned on Friday, December 16th, as Monday, December 19th is the last day to distribute gifts to families. -Jennifer Maloney
- Since next week is a short week, and the following week of school is a three day week, we will postpone our next spelling list until the week of January 9th. Our challenge words for the week of January 9th will be I'll and I've.
- Please remember to stamp and address your first grader's Flat Stanley envelope and return it to school by Monday, December 19th.
- Our amazing first graders have filled their hundreds chart with compliments again! To celebrate, we will have a pajama and stuffed animal day on Tuesday, December 20th. Students may wear their pajamas to school and bring one stuffed animal to keep with them for the day. Stuffed animals must fit inside their backpack, and please help your child select a stuffed animal that does not make a sound. Thank you!
- Tuesday, December 20th will also be first grade's Christmas Book Extravaganza! Thank you so much for all your contributions. It's going to be an exciting day!
- December reading logs are now due. Please begin recording your child's reading on the January reading log.
- Christian County Headliner Newspaper will publish the our letters to Santa in the their December 21st edition. The cost of each paper will still be 75 cents.
- Since Wednesday of this week will also be a fun day with our school-wide sing-along, I have planned some fun activities based on Dr. Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas. I would love to show the movie (the original, animated version) but I don't own it. If anyone happens to own a copy of the original animated How The Grinch Stole Christmas movie that they could lend me to show on Wednesday for "Grinch Day," I would be very grateful!
- Tuesday, December 20-First Grade Book Extravaganza
- Wednesday, December 21-School wide sing-along, last day of second quarter
- December 22-January 3-Christmas Break
We played Snowball Wordo this week, which is a winter-themed version of game we play to practice our high-frequency sight words.
In math, we measured and compared the lengths of items around our classroom.
We read a book called Grumpy Cat that was filled with wonderful descriptive adjectives. We learned what adjectives were, then we listed our own adjectives to describe collections of objects.
We love Calendar Time!
Friday was Choice Day, so our friends who redeemed 25 signatures got to bring a stuffed animal to school. Our classroom dinosaur expert brought her T-Rex.
Only three days until Christmas Break, and it's going to be a very exciting week!
