Reading Book Reports

It's time to start thinking about our monthly book reports! I want to give my fourth graders the opportunity to convince me that they are reading and understanding books at their reading level. My students will be doing this by blogging about a book that they have read.

Here are the guidelines:

Students will be expected select a book that they have read that is on their reading level. They must blog about their book using Kidblog.org. The title of the post should be the title of the book. To receive full credit, the blog post must include the following:
  • Title
  • Author/Illustrator (if any)
  • Setting (with description)
  • Characters (with description)
  • Genre of book
  • Problem/Solution in the story
  • A written summary of the book
  • Evidence that they understand what they have read

Fourth graders may use any medium they choose to show me this information and load it to their blog post. For example:
  • Doceri slide presentation
  • Scribble Press
  • Good Notes
  • iMovie
  • YouTube video
  • Poster (must include a written summary and a photograph for the blog)
  • Diarama (must include a written summary and a photograph for the blog)

The medium is up to them. They are welcome to share other ideas with me. The most important thing is that they do their best work and convince me that they understand the book they read. Once again, to receive full credit, the book must be at their reading level.

Students must complete one of these projects/blog posts each month and share it with the class when they are finished. They may complete it and present it at any time, but it must be done before the last day of the month. Our first project will be due October 31.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  I am excited for my students to demonstrate their learning and creativity!
