Happy Friday once again!
This week was a busy week with school pictures and our student council speeches and election. Next week our reading focus will be inferring, and in writing we'll publish our first piece of writing and begin learning about personal narratives. In science, we will be engineering our own worm terrariums, and in math we will wrap up our first unit on multiples and factors and take the unit test.
Reminders:
- We are now about halfway through first quarter. Rather than send out mid-quarter grades, I will be emailing you if I have any concerns. If I do not have any concerns at this time, we can plan on discussing your child's progress at first quarter conferences.
- Today I am sending home our very first Scholastic Book Club order form. This month Scholastic has a wonderful deal-if teachers can place a $300 order they will give the class 10,000 bonus points! That many bonus points will result in hundreds of free books for our classroom. Please take a look at the flyer and the note I attached to it for more information.
- We are still in need of supplies for an upcoming engineering project! We will need plastic containers, shoe boxes, paper towel/toilet paper rolls, two-liter soda containers, and anything else that might be useful in building a worm terrarium. Thanks!
- PTA is currently holding their annual membership drive. Please consider joining our wonderful PTA. Dues are $7.00 per individual member and $15.00 per business member.
- Our class would love a pizza party! Please send in the proofs of purchase from Little Caesar's pizza boxes. If we collect 100 proofs of purchase, our class will get a free pizza party.
- Mrs. Lanutti has given us a list of art apps for students to have on their iPad when they go to art. Those apps, along with a complete list of apps students should have on their iPad can be found here.
- As always, please visit JTSD's website for school-wide updates and news.
Important Dates:
- September 19-Godfather's Pizza Night
- September 28-PTA Movie Morning (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2)
- October 11-Last day of first quarter, half day of school
A Peek at Our Week:
My wonderful class helped organize our class library. I was so grateful for their help!
We try to take a few minutes each day to share what we've done. Here we are during writer's workshop. We can put our writing under the camera and read it to the class.
The document camera is pretty cool, but when our projector bulb went out this week, that didn't stop us from sharing our writing!
We visited the STEAM computer lab this week.
Finally, several brave student council candidates gave speeches this week before our class election. Pictured here is our new student council representative giving her speech.
Have a lovely weekend, and enjoy the weather!
