August 15 Newsletter

Dear Families,

What a great first week of school! This week we spent lots of time getting acquainted with one another and learning classroom procedures.

Next week in reading, we will begin learning how to select books and have book discussions with one another. I will also be introducing the Accelerated Reader program to the class, helping them set goals, and showing what they are expected to do. In writing, we will begin writing personal narratives. In social studies, we will be using atlases and learning the features of maps. With Mrs. Aubuchon, we'll begin our first unit on place value with whole numbers and decimals in math, and in science we will begin our introductory unit of making observations and inferences.

Homework Notes:

  • Daily Edit for Writing (starts Monday)
  • Read for 30 minutes each night
  • Math Computation Weekly Homework page
  • Any other class work that is not completed during the day for all subjects (students should have this highlighted in their planners)

Reminders:

  • Yellow and white bus forms, "All About My Child" sheets, Student Behavior Contracts, and Attendance/Handbook signature forms need to be signed and returned as soon as possible.
  • Please check and sign your child's planner/assignment book each night.
  • Look for the Reading Olympians and Class Dojo information sheets in your child's Friday Folder. Remember to sign the sheet in the back of the red Friday Folder so that I know you saw what was inside.
  • Our class goes to Library on Tuesdays, so students need to bring their library books back that day. Also, please remind your child to wear appropriate shoes for P.E. on Wednesdays.

Important Dates:
  • Aug 29-25% of Accelerated Reader quarter 1 goal due
  • Sept 1-No School (Labor Day)
  • Sept 8-McDonald's Night
  • Sept 10-Fall Pictures
  • Sept 12-50% of Accelerated Reader quarter 1 goal due

Thank you so much for such a positive first week of school. Enjoy your weekend!
