Greetings Parents!
I hope everyone had a wonderful break! I know I did, but I’m definitely refreshed and ready to come back. I’ve missed my first graders!
One of my New Year’s resolutions this year is to add more to our classroom blog. I’ve usually only added copies of updates I send out through email, but I’ve decided our blog could be a much more useful school-to-home connection, giving you a chance to peek inside our classroom and see more of what we’re up to in first grade. So, I’ve resolved to (1.) take more pictures and (2.) share on our blog more of our daily routines and what we’re learning. That’s my resolution, so I’ll do my best!
Here’s the latest first grade news as we begin third quarter:
• December Reading Logs are due Tuesday, Jan 4.
• Starting this week, we will add one final section to our weekly spelling test: Challenge Words. We will have two challenge words each week that are not part of our regular spelling list and are not recorded on our grade. Challenge words will be words like color words, days of the week, etc. that are very helpful to know and use in our writing. This week’s challenge words are: Sunday and yellow. Remember that correct capitalization counts.
• This week we will begin our Flat Stanley unit in Social Studies. This is usually one of the students’ favorite units. I will be sending out letters explaining more about how you can participate and make this unit memorable!
