First Grade News

Good afternoon, Parents!

Happy Grandparent's Day!  Our Grandparent's Day program was adorable, and our first graders enjoyed giving their grandparents/grandfriends a tour of our classroom and school.  We also had some special guests from the Jr. High today, so anyone who did not have a grandfriend attending was still able to give tours.  Everyone had a wonderful time!

Thank you so much to everyone who was able to attend our Native American Artifact Museum!  I enjoyed getting to see my students' families again, and I loved hearing my first graders explain all that they've learned to their guests.  Here's another peek at all the artifacts we learned so much about:

Here's the latest news for this week and the next:

  • The Staff and PTA of Century Elementary invite you to help us assist the children of our community in need.  Located in our foyer is an Angel Tree where ornaments have the age and need of a child in our area.  Please take the ornaments you would like, purchase the items listed, wrap them and bring them to Century with the ornament taped to the gift by Thursday, December 8th.  If you would like to help but cannot come in to get an ornament, or would like to adopt an entire family, please phone Century Counselor Jennifer Maloney at 724-3804.  Thank you.
  • Next week's challenge words will be couldn't and shouldn't.
  • Our classroom is in need of AAA batteries.  If you have any extras you wish to donate, we would be very grateful!
  • As soon as we return from Thanksgiving Break, all first grade classes will begin working on our letters to Santa that will be published in a special section of the Headliner News.  When I learn the day our letters will appear, I will pass that date along to you!
  • As long as the wind chill is above 32 degrees with no precipitation, first grade will be going out to recess for 20 minutes two times each day.  Students will need to bring a warm coat to school with them every day.
  • Character Cadets will not meet in December.
***Important Dates***
  • November 23-25-No school (Thanksgiving Break)
  • November 30-Choice Day (Hat Day, 25 Signatures), and November reading logs due
  • December 16-Choice Day (Stuffed Animal Day, 25 Signatures)
  • December 21-December reading logs due
  • December 22-January 3-No school (Christmas Break)
Thank you so much for all your wonderful support!  Have a great Thanksgiving!
