Happy Friday once again! Can you believe we are already almost halfway through our first grade year? It feels like we just started! Here is the latest news in first grade:
- This week we added transfer words to our spelling tests. These will be two words I give the class to spell, using phonograms and words they already know. For example, today, one transfer word was charm. Students had to use their knowledge of the ch and ar phonograms to spell this word.
- Next week's challenge words are friendly and kickball.
- Tuesday, December 20th will be our first grade Christmas Book Extravaganza. Each first grade teacher will rotate through every first grade class to share a Christmas book and craft with our students. Please be looking for a supply list to be coming home soon, and if you are able to contribute supplies, they would be most appreciated!
- November reading logs are now due. Please begin recording your first grader's reading on the December reading log.
- Scholastic book order catalogs are coming home tonight in your first grader's red folder. All orders are due by Tuesday, December 6. If you would like to order, you may send the order form and a check payable to Scholastic to school, or you may order online at http://scholastic.com/bookclubs and enter our class code, GYLJ2. If you would like to place an order that will be a holiday gift, please let me know, and I'll place it in the school office to be picked up. Thank you!
- First graders need to bring a warm coat to school each day. As long at the wind chill is above 32 degrees and there is no precipitation, we will go outside for recess.
- Character Cadets will not meet in December.
