Happy Friday!
Next week in math, we will be working with fractions (halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, and eighths) and in science we will explore the different states of matter. During reader's workshop, we'll focus on making predictions (If something in the story had been different, what would have been the likely result?) and in writing we will begin a social studies webquest with a focus on persuasive writing.
Reminders:
- Third quarter grade cards are coming home today. Please look over the grade card, and sign and return the green slip of paper that shows me you received that information. I have told all my students that it is their responsibility to bring back the signed slip by Monday, March 24. Of course, feel free to email me with any questions.
- All fourth graders need to be practicing regularly at home with Study Island and Acuity at Home. The first MAP MADNESS mission is to complete at least 10 items on Study Island with a score of 70% or higher by Tuesday, March 25. Everyone who completes this first task will enjoy a fun reward that day. Thank you for supporting this learning at home!
- I would like all of my fourth graders to add the Puffin Free app to their iPads. This app is a special browser that can support Flash Player. This will allow us to use interactive web sites that use Flash. The iTunes store warns that users must be 17 to download the app, but this is because it is a web browser and can support any content the user wishes to access. Just like with Safari, it is important to monitor and be aware of your fourth grader's use of the browser, but the app itself does not contain any questionable material. Click here to view a complete list of required and recommended apps.
- April 2 is the deadline to return spring picture payments or the picture packet, if you do not wish to purchase any photos.
- April 13 will be the second annual PTA Family Fun Day and Kickball Tournament (Staff vs. Parents). If you are interested in playing kickball or hosting a vendor booth, please use the online sign up form. You can enjoy pictures from the game last year on the PTA website under the Event Photos tab. Click here to sign up for the kickball tournament. Click here to sign up to host a vendor booth.
- Save the date! The evening of April 3 will be STEAM Night at JTSD!
- Our lovely third grade teachers have requested some supplies they will need for STEAM Night. If you can, please send any of the following items (collection of geometrical shapes): cereal boxes, toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, Pringles cans, tissue boxes, oatmeal boxes, rinsed soda cans, boxes. Thank you!
- Please remind your fourth grader to only bring snacks that do not interrupt learning time. Snacks that are easily spilled (like liquids), snacks that require both hands to eat, or snacks that make hands messy are not appropriate. I do not mind students snacking while they work, but they must be able to work and snack at the same time. Students will be asked to put away any snacks that interfere with learning or work time.
- Please visit our JTSD website for school-wide updates and information.
