Happy Friday! This week it was so great to have five whole days with the class, and the weather was nice enough for recess outside. Next week in reading we will be revisiting main idea and making predictions. In writer's workshop, we will review research strategies and note-taking so we can begin writing our persuasive pieces. During science time, we will continue our study of mixtures and solutions, and in math, we will wrap up fractions and begin learning about decimals. Thursday, April 3 is also STEAM Night!
Reminders:
- All fourth graders need to be practicing regularly at home with Study Island and Acuity at Home. The second MAP MADNESS mission is to complete at least 10 items on Study Island with a score of 70% or higher by Friday, April 4. This will put everyone at a total of 25 completed items. Everyone who completes this second task will enjoy a fun reward that day. Thank you for supporting this learning at home!
- Please take a few minutes to complete JTSD's survey on standards-based grading. The link kept getting unlinked in my email, so you can access the survey by clicking here. Your feedback is very valuable to us as we continue to grow and implement standards-based grading. Thank you so much for your time!
- STEAM Night will be on April 3 from 6:00-8:00. This is a wonderful opportunity for all the grade levels at JTSD to showcase their learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Fourth grade will be hosting two activities this year, and we will be needing some help from our fourth graders. Please help your fourth grader select a 30-minute time slot to work, and if he/she wants to work two time slots, that would be great! Our activities will be Adaptation Minute to Win It in Mr. Lowder's classroom and What's the Matter? in Mrs. Eckhardt's classroom. Please click here to sign up. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
- We are also needing some bags of snack-size candy donated for STEAM Night prizes. If this is something you could help with, we would greatly appreciate it!
- If you haven't had a chance to visit PTA's online auction, you still have a few days. The auction will close at midnight on Sunday night. And remember: When bidding, please look through all of the bids to make sure yours is the highest. The highest bid is not necessarily at the bottom of the list. Because this is our second major fundraiser for the year, PTA asks that you will help spread the word. Please encourage friends, neighbors, and family to join the bidding process. ANYONE can bid in the online auction. Just visit www.signupgenius.com and click "Find a Sign Up." Search with the email address jtsdauction@gmail.com.
- Remember that either spring picture packets or picture money must be returned to school by April 2.
- PTA is currently needing volunteers for Family Fun Day, STEAM Night Bake Sale, and for south door car line drop off and pick up. Please consider helping out if you can!
- April 13 will be the second annual PTA Family Fun Day and Kickball Tournament (Staff vs. Parents). If you are interested in playing kickball or hosting a vendor booth, please use the online sign up form. You can enjoy pictures from the game last year on the PTA website under the Event Photos tab. Click here to sign up for the kickball tournament. Click here to sign up to host a vendor booth.
