May 23 Newsletter // Field Day

Good afternoon, Families!

Happy Friday! Field Day was a blast! We all had a great time just enjoying the beautiful day together. Now it's time for a three-day weekend. :)

Next week we only have three and half days of school. We will be finishing our study of story structure and the plot mountain (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) and we'll be starting a web quest that includes reading, math, writing, and economics. In writing, we are interviewing one another about our bird feeders and writing newspaper articles as part of our study on dialogue. In science we will continue our unit on force and motion, and in math we are learning about line graphs and constant change, and we are still working hard to get strong at long division. Please remember that it is a huge help if you check in on your child's morning work each night and offer help on concepts they are struggling with.

Reminders:
  • We are testing next year's Acuity program next week. It's a bit of a bummer for our kids, but it shouldn't last too long, and it is really important that we make sure everything is ready to go. Please encourage your fourth grader to have a positive attitude and still try their best. These scores will not actually be used to assess students, but it is important that students try, so that we can have an accurate idea of how it will work next school year.
  • There will be no school on Monday, May 26, and Friday, May 30 is a half day of school. We'll dismiss at 12:30 that day.
  • The process of checking in iPads will take place during the last two weeks of school. Students must turn in a working iPad charger with their iPad.
  • Don't forget that our summer schedule starts June 2. School will begin at 7:30 and dismiss at 2:20.
  • The sign up is now available to help with the BOGO book fair in June.  You can find the sign up at the this link or by going to www.signupgenius.com and choosing Find A Sign Up for jtsdvolunteers@gmail.com. Thank you!
  • Due to a schedule conflict, our Talent Show has been moved to June 11 at 1:15. There will only be one show for all grade levels.
