September 5 Newsletter


Dear Families,

Good afternoon! Here's the latest news from Room 212:

Peek at the Week

Reading We will learn to identify the elements of the plot of a story.

Writing We will continue working on our imagined narrative and begin revising.

Math We have moved on to comparing decimals and will continue comparing and ordering and then test.

Science We began our first big unit on Matter and will continue to learn about states of matter.

Social Studies We will wrap up our unit on map features and absolute location and test over these skills.

Special Notes
  • Mrs. Hunt, our math specialist, will be in and out of classrooms during instruction time to help students. She will also be seeing a group of students during Eagle Time for 30 minutes a day to work on math topics that students are struggling with. 
  • We are having a Read and Feed on Friday, September 12. Students may wear pajamas/bring a pillow and bring an extra (peanut-free) snack.
  • Yearbooks are on presale at a discounted price until Sept 14.
  • Please remember to send in your Box Tops and Little Caesar's proofs of purchase.
  • Help wanted! Please visit our sign-up for Fall Party donations to see how you can help our classroom. We are also needing volunteers to add AR levels and points to the books in our classroom library. Please let me know if you would like to volunteer!
  • Fall pictures must be paid for in advance.
  • Scholastic book orders are due Wednesday, September 10. Click here to order online with our class code GYLJ2.

Upcoming Tests and Assignments
  • Every Friday-Math Bellwork quiz and Reading Olympians quizzes
  • Students need to be reading their AR books for 30 minutes each night and recording their reading in their assignment books. 
  • Social Studies test Thursday, Sept 11
  • Daily work in all subjects is due the following day and may need to be completed at home. Some students have Second Chance forms accumulating and will be getting Minor forms for not coming prepared with their work completed.
