This week seemed to fly by so fast! We got so much accomplished, though, as we learned procedures and got into a normal routine in our classroom. Next week we'll continue our science unit on rocks and soil by investigating worms and what they contribute to the soil. During reader's workshop, we'll work on making good predictions based on evidence from our reading. In writing, we'll continue learning pre-writing strategies for organizing our ideas. During math workshop, we will be working on our fluency with multiplication facts to 12 and working with representations of multiplication problems.
Reminders:
- Thank you so much for spreading the word about our Donation Drive! Every contribution, big or small, makes a huge difference for JTSD. Our Donation Drive will continue through August 30.
- iPads will be back in our classroom next week! They will remain in our classroom for use at school only through next week. We will have a parent meeting on September 3 (more information coming soon) where families can get information, sign the iPad contract, and the iPad insurance fee of $25. Then students will be able to take their iPads home. We are all very excited to begin using our iPads for learning!
- Thank you so much for looking at your child's Brain Book each night. We have had a couple of days when we did not get to it, but our goal is to make a Brain Book entry every day, so that our families can see what we are working on. Thank you for encouraging your fourth grader to share their learning with you!
- The HALL OF HEROES comic book club is now accepting applications! Applications will be accepted until Wednesday Aug. 28, 3:30 p.m. Parents can fill out the application online by clicking here. The application is also available on the JTSD website.
- Please visit the JTSD website and take a look at the reminders and dates that have been posted.
- August 28-Hall of Heroes applications due
- August 30-Donation Drive ends, envelopes due back to school
- September 2-No school (Labor Day)
- September 3-iPad meeting (more information coming soon)
- September 10-School picture day
A Peek at our Week:
We played a math game with arrays to determine which multiplication facts we knew and which ones we were working on.
We discovered that not all soils are alike and practiced recording detailed observations about odor, texture, color, and grain size in our science notebooks.
Enjoy your weekend!
