Dear Parents,
Happy Friday! As you can see, lately we've been exploring electricity in our classroom. I gave the class wire, a battery, and a light bulb and challenged them to make the bulb light up. It was very frustrating for them for a while, but joy we all experienced when the bulbs finally lit up was amazing! We teachers really love it when little light bulbs come on in our classrooms... :)
THANK YOU for the fabulous teacher appreciation week! I felt so spoiled! I got the sweetest cards, beautiful flowers, poems, and lots of chocolate and Gatorade. It was incredible. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making me feel so loved!
Next week is another busy week for us, as always! In science we will be moving on to the transfer and transformation of energy. In reading, we will be reviewing story elements. In writing, we will be wrapping up and sharing our persuasive writing pieces and then having a debate between our fourth grade classes. In math, we are becoming familiar with the silhouettes of geometric shapes, and working on long division.
Reminders
- With the whirlwind of MAP preparation, we have fallen behind on our book report presentations (my fault!). The best part of these projects is the conversations we have when students share, so I want everyone to have a few minutes to present their book reports. For this reason, I've decided that we will finish sharing our March and April book reports, but I will not require students to complete a book report for the months of May or June.
- The south door car line sign-up has been updated through the end of the school year. PTA is running a little short of volunteers for this important duty, so please sign up if you have any available time. To sign up, visit www.signupgenius.com, click "Find A Sign Up" and search jtsdvolunteers@gmail.com. Thank you!
- Tuesday, May 13 is our MAP Celebration! We will be partying outside, so please have your fourth grader wear appropriate clothing for this and don't forget sunscreen!
- I am hunting for a larger tank for our class gecko, Mr. Geckhardt. He is still in the 10-gallon tank he has had since he was a baby, and I believe he's not growing to full size due to the size of his tank. If anyone has any leads on a bigger tank for cheap or free, please share! Thanks!
